How to Improve the Combustion Process
When we think of the combustion process there are many ways in which
we look to improve on the process of combustion. It can be better
efficiency, lower fuel consumption, lower fuel cost, less green house
gases or less hazardous emissions. Regardless of what your target is,
our software can help you getting there. Lets look at the emissions. Our
software lets you specify the components in your fuel, air and calculate
the products of combustion.
For instance you may want to find out how much NOx or mercury is found
in the combustion products for a certain fuel. May be you want to lower
your fuel consumption. Using Oxygen instead of Air can reduce fuel
consumption as much as 40% ! Does this increase the temperature in the
furnace? Using our software you can calculate the new furnace
temperature using oxygen.
Maybe efficiency is your thing. Did you know that many furnaces operate
at less than then 15% efficiency. Why? Because a flame radiates heat in
all directions only a fraction of this heat goes directly to the object
being heated. But wait there is more to it. The object being heated
receives radiation from the sides and top of the furnace as well as from
radiating gases in the furnace such as CO2 and water. Some of this
radiation will be reflected, some of it absorbed. The hot object surface
will also emit radiation according to its temperature and emissivity.
Apart from the heat transferred to the object, some heat will pass through the furnace walls and the rest will be
released with the stack gases. Our software calculates the actual heat
transferred to the object, the heat losses through the wall, the stack
gas losses, the radiation from the furnace walls and the gas emissivity.
Once you see how the heat is transferred to and from the object ,where
heat losses occurs in the furnace. You can start making some real
changes to your operation.

Eriksson. Ronny has over 30 years experience working with computer
applications for ABB and with All Oxy Fuel installations for AGA Gas Inc. In
2000 he first started
developing his own software programs for combustion calculations and in
2000 he founded Combustion Software Inc.
Ronny, originally from Sweden, lives in Strongsville, OH. He is
a member of AIChE, NEOSA, USPS and Cuyahoga Astronomical Society. He is
a Senior Navigator and a past Commander of USPS in
Berea. His hobbies are Sailing and Astronomy.
